Johannesburg, Monday, 21 September 2009 – Six-a-side Showbol soccer action is set to take East Gauteng by storm at the Boksburg Indoor Arena (73 Middle Street Bardene, on Friday, October 2 (18h30 kickoff) and Showbol Soccer legends such as Doctor Khumalo and Fani Madida will be the first to give the thumbs up to this exciting soccer entertainment format.

Khumalo and Madida were among a host of Showbol Soccer Legends who were in action at the opening leg of the regional Showbol Africa competition in Linden on Friday, September 18, and showed that they still have the skill, speed and stamina to hold their own against the abundance of young talent within an 18 metres x 36 metres Showbol arena.

With only the stars and the moon to guide them, the Boksburg Indoor Arena is set to be the scene for fast-paced Showbol at its best, following the purchase of the Showbol rights for SA from Brazil, by marketing firm PERX.

It’s all about action-packed soccer entertainment of the highest order with the side and goal-side nets ensuring that the ball doesn’t go out of play. Keep an eye out for other new rules as well as Showbol positions itself as the premier indoor international sports package to hit the big time television stage in 2010.

The Boksburg teams were in fine form at the opening leg of the regional event held in Linden on October 18, with Boksburg Blue (nine points) and Boksburg Red (six points), topping the log, followed by the second teams of Randburg and Linden with three points respectively in the eight-team tournament.

Points collected from the respective legs of the Gauteng regional competition will be carried over to the third and final event to be held at the Randburg Indoor Arena on October 16. The top two sides on the points table will qualify to contest the showpiece final at SOCCEREX in Sandton on November 28.

“Showbol is specifically designed for television market and the regional matches in Gauteng is being used as the acid test of this exciting soccer formula,” said PERX CEO Brendan Hannan.

“You can equate Showbol as being along the lines of 20/20 cricket. It’s new in SA, fresh, exciting. Let’s make October 2 the big night out in Boksburg. I am sure that the players and the Showbol Soccer Legends will turn on the skill to make it a night to remember.”
